About
Overview
2010 was a momentous year for the publishing industry. Many publishers embraced the mobile platform, the iPad an numberous other tablet devices were launched and News International re-introduced the dreaded paywall which divided critics across the board.
Many publishers took their first step into the mobile world with an iPhone app and the best business models for this medium are still unclear - The Guardian have recently changed their paid app to a subscription model from a one off charge.
Tablet devices are also set to be at the forefront of publishers' thoughts during 2011 and beyond. The launch of the iPad last year created this market that has glossy magazine publishers taking notice, with devices running on Android, Windows and other platforms already in the market.
Book publishers can also look at the Amazon Kindle, other ebook readers and mobile phones all as possible channels for distributing paid for content.
