About
Overview
The acceleration of smartphone penetration, the fact that 4.2 million UK consumers now access retail sites on their mobile phone and the increasing propensity for consumers to use their mobile phone for in-store activity should show retailers that there is a massive opportunity right now for retailers to develop high level mobile strategies. Figures show that 25 percent of consumers said they would NEVER re-visit a retailers site if they had a negative experience of it on their mobile devices, yet only 4 out of the top 20 retail brands have a website optimised for mobile.
Recent research
Mobile commerce is set to reach a staggering $119 billion by 2015 according to a recent study by IAB UK, AIME and the IMRG in August 2010, shows that there are huge opportunities for retailers in the mobile sectore. Findings from the research include:
- 41 percent of retailers plan to have a transactional mobile site or application in place within the next year
- 59 percent of retailers expect their mobile revenues to increase over the next 12 months, and 94 percent see it as a real opportunity for their business
- 74 percent of retailers stated that they would like to receive training in this mobile commerce
