”
Next in line for the MOBILE10 questions is Alex Rahaman, formerly of Unanimis, now heading up StrikeAd.

What’s your app of the moment?

Viber – we have offices in Kiev and NYC and so we can text and call each other easily on Wifi through our phones for free. I know Skype does the same, but Viber seems to integrate with the phone book more easily and look more seamless.

What is your primary phone?

I had my iPhone4 nicked in a NYC Starbucks and so am trying the cheapest Android to check the experience, and its pretty good! For £99 the Samsung Mini Galaxy has great compatibility with our work Gmail, calendar and is light and easy to use. This sort of phone will be the future or mass market mobile browsing and advertising.

Which mobile startups have you got your eye on?

PlaceIQ contextualises locations, it listens to the social noise by location and time and determines what type of person is there. They work well with us as StrikeAd can add this context to a location based advertising decision, and say, target shoppers or people on a night out.
Another one, Milo, helps consumers look at products in stores and get the best prices. You can take a picture of an object at a friend’s house and search for the nearest store to buy that item. eBay liked it so much they just bought it in a $75 million deal – so now you can order and then pick it up at the store, using eBay software.
What are you currently working on?

Building StrikeAd to become the bridge between media buyers and consumers, globally – I like a challenge!

What will be the biggest opportunity in 2012?

Location based advertising – combine customer stated intent with past behaviour and pinpoint ad targeting driving to real world store upselling, and you have the holy grail of ALL advertising

Who are your 3 rockstars in mobile?

Omar Hamoui – Founded Admob, grew the industry, exited extremely wellCharles Dunstone – To use the mobile, we had to own one, and his vision and hard work made sure we did.
Steve Jobs – Changed the rules. RIP

Who were you working for 10 years ago?

Touch Clarity. I was in the founding team of a business way ahead of its time – it optimised web content based on observed trends and behaviour in real time. I was BD Director and when I went to market I might have been speaking Mandarin…!

Who was/is your best boss?

Paul Philips, CEO of Touch Clarity. One of the smarted guys I’ve had the pleasure to work with. He kept the business going through all sorts of adversity and succeeded in exiting to Omniture in 2006. He’s now CEO of his next big thing in San Fransisco.

Who should we interview next?

Dan Rosen, Head of Mobile AKQA. A Mobile legend
