“My eyes are on the hundreds of mobile app teams we are training at the moment
”

What’s your app of the moment?

Babycenter pregnancy app (I’m 8 months pregnant…) [good luck with the birth Iris]

What is your primary phone?

HTC Nexus One [me too]

Which mobile startups have you got your eye on?

To be honest at the moment, my eyes are on the hundreds of mobile app teams we are training at the moment and the dozens of app professionals who are mentoring them….

What are you currently working on?

I run an education and technology charity, where we train young people to create mobile (and Facebook apps) that solve problems they are passionate about. We have grown 20x since last year and 1,500 students in 40 schools are now attending the Apps for Good programme. Our aim is to create the next generation of problem solvers who can change the world – one app at a time.

What will be the biggest opportunity in 2012?

For us: cross-platform mobile web standards, especially html5 that can connect to native phone features. This will really help us to unleash the creative potential of thousands of young people.

Who are your 3 rockstars in mobile?

Dan Joseph from The App Business @TheAppBusiness, because he was the first person in the app space who really believed in our vision for Apps for Good and helped us, while everyone else thought we are crazy.
Rajinder Verdi from Orange Labs, a great user experience designer who has been mentoring several young people in parallel and truly believes in our vision of democratising app development (especially for girls).
Kevin McDonagh @kevinmcdonagh from Novoda/ Droidcon, who can never sit still and is an inspiring role model for any young person who hates school today and thinks there is no future for them – like Kevin did years ago and getting into technology helped him to find his path & passion in life.
Who were you working for 10 years ago?

Well, I’m not that old! I was still at university 10 years ago…

Who was/is your best boss?

Adriana Whiteley while working at Ovum. I learnt from her everything I know about business models and a lot about the mobile sector. Now I’m my own boss, but have a great mentor in Kevin Eyres (formerly with LinkedIn)

Who should we interview next?

Mohima Ahmed, one of our most inspiring mobile app developer students
