“I really believe that visual search is going to be big next year
”

What’s your app of the moment?

I like apps that are useful for me at the time – I’m completely dependant on the London Tube Map (powered by Zuti for Android) and Google Maps. I also like apps that encourage you to try something different, like the C25K running app.
Finally, I have to admit that I’m addicted to Fruit Slice – there’s nothing better than Ninja fruit chopping.
What is your primary phone?

I carry around the HTC Desire S – great little phone. I’m currently investing in iPods, iPads and iPhones though for Snap testing purposes!

Which mobile startups have you got your eye on?

I’ve met some great startups recently through Tech City and Red Bull Future 50. PixelPin seems like a great app focused on improving mobile security, which can only be a good thing! Artfinder provides image recognition for paintings, so I’m watching them with great interest.

What are you currently working on?

Snap Fashion is a mobile app and website to find clothing online using a picture. If you’re out-and-about and see something you love but can’t afford or find in your size, take a picture on your mobile and we’ll find you similar items in seconds. We also look at your body shape to see if it will suit you, or recommend what would look better on you. Basically, I’m on a major quest to make Internet shopping easier, more fulfilling and more reliable!

What will be the biggest opportunity in 2012?

I really believe that visual search is going to be big next year – there are so many companies investing in this area at the moment, something great has to emerge from it.

Who are your 3 rockstars in mobile?

Bob Schukai has been really great to Snap Fashion, talking about us and offering us words of wisdom! His Twitter feed is always really informative and interesting too – I basically keep up with all mobile news via Bob!
Jonathon Ive, the designer of the iPhone. I’ll always remember seeing the iPod for the first time on a holiday in California, and his design for the iPhone has made it a truly coveted item.
Hartmut Neven, originally of Neven vision and now Director of Engineering at Google, he is a true legend of Computer Vision. I can’t wait to see what direction he’ll take Google Goggles in.
Who were you working for 10 years ago?

10 years ago I was sitting in a classroom thinking about what GSCE options I should pick! At the time I think I wanted to be an animator for Pixar.

Who was/is your best boss?

Me! Who doesn’t want to work for themselves?

Who should we interview next?

The guys from MagnoliaBox are good fun and it’d be interesting to know if they’re going mobile soon. PixelPoint would be great too – when will my mobile be secure?
