“I firmly believe that AR is going to be revolutionary for the mobile adult industry.
”

What’s your app of the moment?

How do I put this politely? We are creating an app for a very famous young lady here in Spain (just been voted off a Spanish equivalent of ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here’) – whose reason for celebrity is being able to do ‘gymnastics’ (her words, not mine) with a certain intimate part of her body! Err hum.
From the business side, the app is nothing revolutionary but its main objective is to identify the best business model for a Spanish only (adult) app across billing models, distribution and marketing. Not as easy as it sounds!

What is your primary phone?

Blackberry Bold – for emails, but I have an iPod Touch for Apps (hate the phone and hate touchscreen keypads). The app store on Blackberry is nothing short of painful! When there isn’t a worldwide BB outage of course!

Which mobile startups have you got your eye on?

I firmly believe that AR is going to be revolutionary for the mobile adult industry. I’m not talking about walking through Soho with an AR info guide, I’m talking about selecting your favourite Pornstar and she does a lap dance – on your lap! The idea of mixing fantasy and reality is really what adult entertainment is all about – AR has the potential to do this in so many immersive ways. If the ARPU, per month for live adult video chat is currently 50 bucks, imagine where THIS could go in terms of revenue potential!

What are you currently working on?

We’ve been setting up something that I call the ‘adult app experiment’. It’s basically a test base to identify better commercialisation models as there appears to be a considerable gap for monetising apps over just getting lots of downloads. I’m also working on a new business that is a destination to bring together the best resources and support for the adult mobile business community and another that will allow gentlemen a 1st person, interactive experience in some of the world’s most famous ‘gentlemen’s clubs’.

What will be the biggest opportunity in 2012?

From our perspective, a big part of it will be html5 and web apps – this knocks down a LOT of obstacles previously mentioned, but it needs more reach and development before it arrives at its tipping point.

Who are your 3 rockstars in mobile?

Tony Pearce from Teepee games, just a fantastic mobile entrepreneur and one of the most honest and fun people I know.
Karel De Beule from Kimia – he is to mobile affiliate traffic what Steve jobs is to innovation.
Tomi T Ahonen – if there ANYTHING you want to know about the business of mobile – Tomi will have it!
Who were you working for 10 years ago?

10 years ago I had just fled NY after the 9/11 (as a clean-cut client services director for a very respected digital design agency). By a strange twist of fate I ended up in Barcelona as an account director for Private Media (yes, THAT Private!). My strapline ever since has been ‘Bin Laden got me into porn’, although I’m not sure that was his main objective at the time.

Who was/is your best boss?

Gary Lockton, one of the founders of Deepend. He was a total inspiration and mentor to me and showed me just how much was possible in business. Not sure I’d be running my own business today if it wasn’t for him.

Who else should we interview?

Definitely give Tony Pearce a shout – he’ll have some great answers and also Andrew Darling – wonderfully eloquent in his opinions and thoughts!
