Time for MOBILE10 to turn the tables on someone who is more at home asking the questions. The interviewer becomes the interviewee with the fabulous Leila Makki in the hotseat today.
What’s your app of the moment?
I’m really into TuneIn Radio so I can listen to local stations around the world and WhatsApp so I can message my friends and family abroad for free.
What is your primary phone?
I’m currently using the Nokia Lumia 800 while waiting for my iPhone 4s to ship.
Which mobile startups have you got your eye on?
I just came back from hosting the Vodafone Mobile Clicks award in Amsterdam and met with a lot of great startups in Europe. UK’s ParcelGenie, Germany’s Wunderlist, & Spain’s FrogTek all won so I’m keeping a close eye on them.
What are you currently working on?
I’m producing four videos this week for a corporate client so am pretty busy with scripts and logistics at the moment. I’m always pitching videos so when I’m not working, I’m thinking of what story to cover next.
What will be the biggest opportunity in 2012?
I really hope it’s not more of the same. I’d like to see some new innovations really take off and not just get massively hyped by the industry and then fall by the wayside. From an operator/manufacturer point of view – getting the next billion connected is a priority.
Who are your 3 rockstars in mobile?
My husband. He’s been working in mobile since 1999.The programmers who spend countless hours coding with little to no recognition.The fans/users/customers – those passionate about mobile and are adopting new technologies. They are the reason mobile is booming.
Who were you working for 10 years ago?
I was studying in California and interning for Guerilla News Network, an alternative TV and web news channel, where we were working on a documentary about 9/11.
Who was/is your best boss?
Robert DeNiro is probably my most famous boss from when I worked at TriBeCa Films in New York. Sadly, there was almost no interaction with him day to day. I’ve had plenty of amazing bosses – all whom I’ve learned a great deal from. However, nothing beats working for yourself.
